Scripture: Colossians 2:20-3:4
20 Since you died with Christ to the elemental spiritual forces of this world, why, as though you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its rules: 21 “Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!”? 22 These rules, which have to do with things that are all destined to perish with use, are based on merely human commands and teachings. 23 Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence.
Living as Those Made Alive in Christ
3:1 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
Observation:
“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.” (Colossians 3:1-4)
Paul tells us not to labor under the old rules that were merely human commands, but rather as members of Christ’s Body, the church, we should focus things above not earthly things. We can do this is prayer, reading the bible, studying the word, singing spiritual songs to God’s glory.
Application:
As members of Christ Body, the Church, we have our life hidden in Christ’s life. So, let us embrace our new position and allow the Spirit of God in us to shape us after Christ’s way. let us become new creations in Christ Jesus, all to the glory of God.
Prayer:
Dear Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for giving us a new life in your love and grace. Help us to grow daily in every aspect that you lead us. Allow us to inspire others to come to your grace and love. Help us not to focus on the things of this world although we are in need of earthly things, but allow us to seek you first, your kingdom and righteousness, then everything else will be added unto us as well. (Matthew 6:33) Amen.
