Scripture: Psalm 61

For the Director of Music, with Stringed Instruments. A Psalm of David.

1 Hear my cry, O God;
    listen to my prayer.

From the ends of the earth I call to you,
    I call as my heart grows faint;
    lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
For you have been my refuge,
    a strong tower against the foe.

I long to dwell in your tent forever
    and take refuge in the shelter of your wings.
For you, God, have heard my vows;
    you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name.

Increase the days of the king’s life,
    his years for many generations.
May he be enthroned in God’s presence forever;
    appoint your love and faithfulness to protect him.

Then I will ever sing in praise of your name
    and fulfill my vows day after day.

Observation:

David, the Psalmist knows that God has always been David’s true help. He writes: “Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe. (Psalm 61:1-3)

Like David, our God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble.

Application:

Like David, we should be ever thankful to our Lord for our salvation and our rock. May we always praise our Lord and God that the others in our lives will hear and see our praises and be enticed to seek the Lord for their own salvation and strength.

Prayer:

Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for your sacrifice that makes us whole in you. May we be ever thankful to you, singing your praises and witnessing to our friends and family that they also might seek your forgiveness and the new life that you promise all of your children. Amen.
