Scripture: Psalm 63
A Psalm of David when he was in the Desert of Judah.
1 You, God, are my God,
earnestly I seek you;
I thirst for you,
my whole being longs for you,
in a dry and parched land
where there is no water.
2 I have seen you in the sanctuary
and beheld your power and your glory.
3 Because your love is better than life,
my lips will glorify you.
4 I will praise you as long as I live,
and in your name I will lift up my hands.
5 I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods;
with singing lips my mouth will praise you.
6 On my bed I remember you;
I think of you through the watches of the night.
7 Because you are my help,
I sing in the shadow of your wings.
8 I cling to you;
your right hand upholds me.
9 Those who want to kill me will be destroyed;
they will go down to the depths of the earth.
10 They will be given over to the sword
and become food for jackals.
11 But the king will rejoice in God;
all who swear by God will glory in him,
while the mouths of liars will be silenced.
Observation:
David the Psalmist is praising God in the middle of a dry and waterless land. He writes: “Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. (Psalm 63:3-4)
Application:
Like in Psalm 61 and Psalm 62 David continues to place his reliance upon the Lord even in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water. It is not water that David longs for, but for God. David describes his longing for God as a thirst for God.
Do we thirst for God in our every day lives.? Do we thirst for God when we have plenty to eat and drink? We like David should have a healthy thirst for God and God’s love. Let us thirst for God in our lives no matter what the circumstances might be.
Prayer:
Dear Lord Jesus, we are so thankful for your saving and birthing love. For you have not only saved us from our sins but you have placed within us your own Spirit, the Spirit of God that proceeds from the Father and the Son. May your Spirit lead us to the well of your love to satisfy our thirst for you. Help us to remember your love every moment of our lives for as David writes, “your love is better than life.” Help us to praise you with our lips and our whole beings as we walk in the light of your Word, and as we live New Lives in Your Name. Amen.
